Young Michael’s dream was to be in the basketball team of his school. The older boys often made fun of him by sticking out their tongues during practice. Unfortunately, Michael’s first attempt failed as his height did not match the eligibility criteria for selection. As a child, the one thing Michael wanted was to grow tall. After his failed attempt at getting selected, he decided he would try again. His father encouraged him, “You have it in your heart. The tallness is within you. You can be as tall as you want to be in your thinking.” Michael was not always destined to become the greatest basketball player of all times. He did not come from an athletic family. His father was a mechanic and his mother a bank teller. No one else in his family was over 6 feet tall. Yet, his devotion for the game and his relentless efforts brought him where he is.
