We Eat What We Plant

Many years ago, two brothers lived with their father in a small house. The elder brother was very proud and arrogant, as he thought he would inherit what his father owned. One day, when their father was on his deathbed, he said, “Remember, my sons. You will eat what you plant. I leave my land to both of you. Share this property and work together.” When their father died, the elder brother threw the younger brother out of the house. As the younger brother left the village, he heard a shrill cry from a tree. A snake was attacking a baby swallow. The younger brother saved the baby swallow. The swallow gifted him a damp seed and asked him to sow it. Within minutes, a luscious melon was growing on the vine. Within an hour, it was ripe and ready to be picked. The melon was filled with gold coins. Suddenly, the younger brother remembered what his father had said, “What you plant is what you will eat.” Thus, he became very rich.
