There are six progressive stages of disease. Disease does not just appear, there is no such thing as a ‘sudden heart attack.’ Years of imbalance and neglect create that experience.
1. The first stage of disease is called accumulation and is begun when there is an imbalance in the doshas and a buildup in the specific areas of the body. This may occur because of inappropriate diet, lifestyle thoughts or feelings.
2. The second stage, aggravation, is a sign that the dosha has begun to overflow like a bucket of water under a dripping faucet.
3. The third stage, dissemination, is the excess dosha moving throughout the body. During this stage, there can be a whole range of symptoms occuring in different parts of the body at different times—vague symptoms that are rather hard for the patient or a doctor to pin down.
4. The fourth stage is known as relocation. This is the stage where the imbalanced dosha has settled into one specific site and begun to cause more serious symptoms.
5. The fifth stage is manifestation, where the excess dosha has settled down and can row be identified as a specific disease.
6. The last stage is known as disruption, because the disease manifests, disrupting the health of the individual. It is at this stage that a medical physician can recognize definitely what is wrong and give the disease a name.
