A long time ago, there lived on earth extraordinary animals that belongs to family of reptiles and ruled the land for 150 million years before disappearing from earth. These were the dinosaurs.
The age in which these strange animals lived was called age of dinosaur. No one has seen them because no one lived then but can visualize what some of them looks like.
The information about dinosaurs comes from fossils. These remains are found in the form of bones and skin turned to rock or impression of skin on rock and fossils collected are kept in museums.
Scientist has also learnt about the general characteristics of dinosaurs from their fossils. They lived mainly on land and although some ventured in river, lakes, and swamps. Some were meat while others were plant eaters. They all were giant sized. The smallest dinosaur known was about the size of a chicken.
Most dinosaurs had scaly skin. Just as modern reptile do, while some had large outer bony covering. But dinosaurs were different from modern reptiles from several ways. Many walked on their hind legs only some had huge bodies and long tails.
Dinosaurs became extinct. The reason is not know though is it believed that a natural disaster or climatic change must have been the reason.
