Old is Gold

I wonder how old can be termed as gold in every case. Old wine and old rice no doubt become richer with the passing of years. Old sayings are the gems of wisdom. Old values hold good in every age. But what about old buildings and old faces? It is just impossible to admire a wrinkled face, a faded flower or a falling tower. Time plays havoc with every person and thing. It robs one of youth, strength and beauty. Where is Helen of Troy today? She lives only in history books. The proverb, however, makes sense when we take into account the wisdom of olden times. In this age of growing lawlessness and violence we realize the value of peace, love and charity. The teachings of the Vedas and other holy books remain evergreen and as precious as gold. At the end, it is nice to say this old is gold.
Vocabulary
Faded—not glooming
