Today Hotel Management has became one of the fastest developing business. Looking at the development of this business there is a growing demand of trained young men and women. At present approximately thousand people yearly are getting training from all recognized institutes in government and private fields. Whereas within our country there is an yearly demand of 30-35 thousand trained candidates.
In this time of economic liberalization many multinational companies have entered India, and this has provided a new strength to hotel business. Renovation is going at a great speed in old hotels regarding quality of interiors and many national and foreign companies are opening up new hotels in India. Expansion of hotels are on the cards and it is quite evident that there are very good prospects for young trained men and women in this field.

There are many people in India which started their journey at an ordinary designation but now have become kings of Hotel Business. After 10+2. Hotel Management can be opted as one of the best career. Welcome Group, Nirula’s, Hyatt Regency, Maurya Shereton, Taj Group, etc., give preference to those candidates who have done diploma in Hotel Management. There is provision of “IN-HOUSE” training in some groups, where selected young people were taught about the working conditions and quality work. High salaries were also given here.
There was a time when according to Indian culture, girls were not allowed to work in hotels, but in recent years there is an increment in number of girls entering in this field. Now in all hotel groups, girls are working in the same ratio as boys. Trained young girls can now be seen an positions right from Receptionist to General Manager and Director. Hotel Management includes commercial and technical information regarding front office, food production, house keeping, marketing department, food beverages department etc. During training, candidates are supposed to choose a specific field according to their choice. Like any other business it is necessary to be perfect in different studies related to work. Specialization in this field can take a person to heights of success. There are great prospects for hard working, talented and jolly natured candidates who are well versed with English language.
In India many government and non government institutes are working in order to provide training in Hotel Management. These institutes offers degree and diploma courses in this field. Many recognised institutes of Indian Government invites application from time to time from candidates. Eligible candidates have to pass through written exam, group discussion and interview. Admission is granted to those who clear all three stages. After examining the ability and self confidence of the candidate, questions are asked from the candidate related to Science and English. Medium of examination is both Hindi and English objective type questions are been asked. During an interview candidates are examined on the basis of their interest in hotel business, work, surrendering nature, and etiquette.
“National Council of Hotel Management and Catering Technology” is one of the leading institute of India which provide training in Hotel Management. In 30 selected cities a Joint Entrance Exam is been conducted by this institute. There are total 200 seats in this institute for admission.
The Institute also offer diploma courses in “Catering Technology and Applied Nutrition”, Hotel Management, specialization in Hotel Management, Post Graduate Diploma in Food Production and Management, Post Graduation Diploma in Diet, Bakery, Restaurant and Counter Service, Cooking, Canning etc. apart from diploma and degree.
Young people trained in different courses can be appointed as General Manager, Shift Manager, Receptionist, Information Assistant, Bell Capton, Bell Boy, Executive, House Keeper, Door Man, Floor Supervisor, Cash Clerk, Cashier, Security Officer in big Hotels, Tourist centres and Hospitals. Minimum eligibility for admission in all these institutes is 10+2 in science or commerce faculty. But for post graduation diploma course, graduation is necessary. For 3 year diploma course, 22.5% seats are reserved for SC and ST candidates in Government Institutions.
