We are well aware of a promising future in the career as a Chartered Accountant or C.A. Today in the era of liberalization, India has become a major workplace of multinational companies. With this not only the demand for Chartered Accountants have increased but there has been increase in the scope of their role and workfield. There are various options present before young people for taking C.A. as a career. All small and big companies both in the private and public sector as well as industrial business groups appoints Chartered Accountants.
C.A. course has been computerized by the “Institute of Chartered Accountants of India”, New Delhi, which provide recognition to C.A. as a business, because of these youngsters having started taking interest in this field. The Institute also offers a “Special Participation Standard Course”, which is a centre of attraction for all young people in this field. The work of a C.A. is to prepare account ledgers, balance sheets and profit and loss accounts, etc. This is not all the C.A. has to prepare salary accounts, daily expenses and final accounts taking into accounts each and every minute detail.
C.A. of any company is responsible for preparing the balance sheet and other financial statements. C.A. associated with any special groups also look upon whether their companies are paying different taxes license tax, etc. or not? C.A. presents his report to the Company’s Board after internal audit. A Charted Accountant also plays the role of an important advisor. He advice regarding reduction in prime cost, purchase of raw material, sale of properties, etc. The actual assessment of the loss caused to any party by robbery, wear and tear in any institute, industrial group, or factory is done by a Chartered Accountant.
It is necessary for the young aspirants to clear the “Foundation Course”, if they are looking for a possibility of a career as Chartered Accountant. This foundation course is being offered by Institute of Charted Accountants of India. This is a standard and authorised institute for C.A. course.
Those students who have cleared 10+2 are eligible for foundation course. Those candidates who are B.Com with 50% marks are exempted from the foundation course. Course material of foundation course is decided by the institute. This course can be done through correspondence or by taking admission in any coaching institute recognised by the Institute. The coaching facility is now available in all the big cities of the country.
Four types of question papers are included in the Foundation Course which are as follow:
(1) Cardinal Principals of Keeping A/C,
(2) Commerce Law,
(3) Maths and Statistics, and
(4) Economics.
Every question paper is of 100 marks and time duration is 3 hrs. In order to pass this course it is necessary for the candidate to score at least 40% marks in every question paper, totaling to 50% marks in aggregate. In the C.A. course both theoretical and practical training is included. Therefore for practical training one has to do “Articleship” under the direction of any professional Chartered Accountant. During the training scholarships decided by the Institution were also given.
After passing the Foundation Course, one can take on Intermediate Exams of Chartered Accountancy. In the last semester of 3rd year of Articleship, final exam can be given, but the candidate should have completed both the semesters of Intermediate Exams. Every year exams of both semesters of intermediate and final are organised both in India as well as in many centres abroad.
Candidates who are successful in the C.A. final exams were given the degree of Associate Member of Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ACA) and the person who successfully works as a C.A. for 5 years is given the degree of “Fellow Member”.
Various opportunities are available to a person who completes C.A. in information & control system, advisory, services, international finance and financial services, etc. There is also a system of campus interview during training. Besides this a C.A. can earn a lot by practicing independently.
