Those people who know a little bit about computers are very well acquainted with “Hardware” and “Software”. Hardware means the tangible parts which includes Monitor, CPU, Keyboard, Mouse, & other peripherals while the Software mean the intangible part i.e. programmes and commands which are used to execute various processes within an organisation. Actually speaking, computer is an electronic machine. By looking at the computer all of sudden a thought comes in the mind that computer is an effective machine. It is true that computer doesn’t have heart-mind, but it has the faculty of collecting information.
We give instructions to the computer in the form of various commands and computer follows it immediately. In the language of computer programming, a group of instructions and commands is known as “Programme”. “Software” is an organised set of these types of programmes. There are various types of softwares. For executing a specific command the computer co-ordination is established between different parts and that set of desired programmes is known as “System Software”. System software is thus an important software for executing all the programmes of computer successfully. It is a different type of application software and help of languages like Basic, Cobol, C++, Oracle and others languages is taken for designing it.
Just like by playing different types of cassettes in a tape-recorder, one can enjoy different types of music, similarly by applying different types of application software, we can achieve different objectives. In today’s time, software technology has proved to be an important career with innumerable opportunities. India’s capable, trained, and talented software specialists are celebrating their success in Western countries. To produce high quality application software is a work of software specialist.
The Journey of software growth is divided into 5 groups which are as follows:

(2) Designing
(3) Utility
(4) Examination & Recognition
(5) Maintenance
Under first group Analysis, the nature of programme is to be understood. Software specialists analyse the sphere of software, expected work, compilation and their internal attachments. On the basis of information and expectations received from the people who want to use software, these information are collected.
The second group is Designing, where special emphasis is being given to the arrangement of information, scattering of software and command details. While designing any software, expectations of users is the biggest consideration. Software designing is based on particular specialities.
The third group in the journey of software growth is Utility. In computer language it is known as coding. Commands in the software should be in language which is understood by the computer. Coding process also confirms the fact that whether designing is done efficiently and the expectations of users are kept in mind or not. After the coding process, software is tested. The reason behind this test is to find any kind of discrepancy in work process of the software. Whether all rationals are working accordingly or not? Whether all the facts and truths are acceptable or not? Only after examining each and every minute details the software is able to produce true results.
Under research programmes of software, specialists of software consider whether software is developed according to the expectations of users or not? This is not all, if the user face any problem in handling software then this experiment is considered as a failure.
There is a need to have an extra talent to become a software specialist in the field of computer programming. A successful software specialist can be compared with talented translator. Software specialist converts the commands written in the language spoken by human being into a language which a computer can read and understand. In this whole process one has to be extra careful because there is no possibility of summary in more than one form of expression of the related language. The reason for this is, there is no place for confusion and doubt in a computer.
There are many creative dimensions of Application Software Development and by implementing them high speed software can be manufactured. The work of software manufacturing is somewhat similar to solving riddles or mathematic at questions. The work of system programmer is comparatively more difficult because it is necessary to understand the detailed form of computer work system. Government of India renowned institute CMC Limited offers a 6 months to 2 year training courses in software technology. Another institute of Govt. of India ET & T offers a diploma course in computer software technology. Both these institutes with there unlimited branches are spread in different cities of india. This is not all, NIIT, Aptech, Uptron, Acl etc. also offers software career courses. While taking admission in software technology courses interested candidates should be aware of the fact whether the course is recognised by Department of Electronic Accreditation of Computer Courses (DOEACC), Ministry of Information Technology, Govt. of India or not. Students who have done BCA or MCA have very bright future in software technology as a career.
Software Business has proved itself to be the fastest developing business. It’s yearly exports in thousand of crores rupees or so, which is increasing day-by-day. By looking at the growth and development of software technologies, when American President was on his visit to India in the year 2000, he was really happy and surprise and predicted that in the coming future India will be placed highest in the world in the field of computer. Therefore, those young people who are interested in making their career in field of computer, “Software technology” is one of the best field.
