Vagina and Uterus
Vagina is an interface between the external and internal reproductive organs. The external organs include: vulva, clitoris and vestibule. It is a muscular tube which is connected with blood vessels and nerves. It makes the connection between the vestibule and the uterus. Uterus is a pear-shaped organ which is the house where a fertilised ovum is embedded. It is situated behind the rectum. The internal lining of the uterus is called the endometrium which receives the fertilised ovum.
Ovaries
Ovaries are glands that generate ova or eggs. A female body has a pair of almond-sized oval-shaped ovaries. The ovaries perform two main functions: they produce ova; they produce two major hormones required for reproduction, oestrogen and progesterone. The parent hormone that controls the hormone production of the ovaries is the gonadotrophic hormone, secreted by the anterior pituitary gland.
