Chapter 8 – Aksharbrahm Yoga | SHRIMAD BHAGWAD GITA

TRUTH, SOUL AND MUNDANE WORLD

Arjun asked Lord Krishna, ‘O man sublime! What is Brahma or truth? What is spirit? What is Karma? What is mortal? What is deity supreme? And O Madhusudan! What is yajna supreme? And how is it in this body? Please reveal these mysteries to me.’ Krishna answered, ‘O Dhananjaya! What is divine and immortal, that is ‘the truth’. Nature or a creature’s soul is ‘spirit’.

Karma is sacrifice which creates emotions in creatures. All the perishable items are ‘mortal’. Brahma or Prajapati is ‘deity supreme’. And O Arjun noble, I am the ‘Yajna Supreme’ the omniscient destroyer in the bodies of all the creatures. Arjun, whoever invokes me at the hour of death, he gains me in the after world. Parth, in the last moments of life the same sentiment emerges in one that has been prominent during one’s life time. So, keep me in your mind and battle in that sentiment.

EASY PATH TO CREATOR

O Arjun! One who concentrates life force in the centre of his eye brows and remembers God with still mind while dying, he gains Him after death. Yogis who exercise celibacy, how they do it; listen to that process— first of all they block all the outgoing tendencies of the sensory organs and then they vest their mind in the heart zone.

After doing that they focus the life force in the forehead using the power of determination and leave the mortal body humming ‘Om’ name of God and thinking of abstract form of the Creator. Such yogis earn salvation and deliverance from metempsychosis. That is a difficult path. The easy way is to worship me in true devotional spirit. Thus, I am easily gained. O Parth, who gains me, he no more suffers from birth-death cycles.’

DELIVERANCE FROM TRANSMIGRATION

Krishna further said, ‘O Kaunteya! All the worlds and domains are temporary, including Brahma domain. Those who know the mystery of time they understand well that entire living and non-living beings of the universe are born out of Brahma’s micro-body and then dissolve into it. There is only one unborn and eternal force element, gaining which is described in the scriptures as salvation.

The knowers of this elementary force truth gain the final salvation or moksha which is known as ‘Uttarayan Gati’. Those who do attached karma they gain ‘Dakshinayan Gati’. So it is believed. They are also known as the ‘Devyan’ and ‘Pitriyan’ respectively. The ones who gain the latter they enjoy spans in heavenly domains and then return to take birth again. O Arjun! Know these two paths well and be yoga borne with equanimous mind and battle. You will gain the sublime position.’
