What is Chlorophyll?

Chlorophyll is a green pigment. It is present as disc-like units in chloroplasts in the leaves of green plants. It plays an important role in producing food in the form of sugar in leaves. It is also found in the cells of stems and flowers. Chlorophyll makes sugar in the presence of sunlight, minerals, water and carbon dioxide. This process is known as photosynthesis. In the absence of chlorophyll, plants cannot produce their own food.
