The word deciduous literally means, ‘Falling off’. The shrubs and trees that shed their leaves every year at the end of every growing season are known as deciduous plants. They shed all of their leaves to adapt to the changing weather conditions and grow some new leaves when seasons change again. In some parts of the world trees shed their leaves as the weather becomes colder and the ground freezes. In other parts of the world trees shed their leaves because the weather has become hot and dry. Some of the most famous deciduous trees include beeches, maples and oaks. The evergreen tree is a complete contrast to the deciduous tree. An evergreen is a plant that has leaves throughout the year, always green.
