What is a ‘Cold’?

A ‘cold’, also called common cold, is a viral infection that attacks the upper respiratory tract. It is the most frequent infectious disease in humans. It affects the nose and the throat. During this infection, the mucous membrane of the nose and the throat becomes inflamed. The body’s immune response to the infection leads to a runny nose, sneezing and a sore throat. A common cold is cured within 7 to 10 days. Children and old people are susceptible to it. Prevention of common cold lies in washing hands frequently, maintaining hygiene, and wearing face masks when required.
