Lima bean is a herbaceous perennial plant but is generally grown as an annual. The plant is bushy, which grows up to 3.25 feet. The white to yellow flowers, which occur in loose, open unbranched clusters develop into broad, flat pods up to 9 cm long. This species requires a long, warm growing season for bean development. This legume is valued for its edible seeds which are high in protein and have a good amount of some of vitamins and minerals as well. Lima beans have a number of medicinal uses, too.
