It is an evergreen perennial shrub. It is often grown in tropical and sub-tropical gardens. It grows only 2 to 3 feet tall but spreads up to 6 feet wide. Flower blooms almost throughout the year. The leaves are oval, light green and 5-8 cm long. The young stems and the undersides of the leaves are soft and downy. There are cultivars with yellow bracts, bright red bracts, and others with lime green bracts. The plant is used in mixed perennial beds and borders.
