It is a perennial shrub. Siberian pea tree is a large, rounded, multi-stemmed, deciduous shrub with upright branching that grows up to 15-20 feet tall and to 12-15 feet wide. The leaves are bright green, each with 4 to 6 pairs of leaflets. The stipules are usually spiny. The pea-like yellow flowers bloom singly or in clusters in May. The flowers give way to yellowish-green pods that mature to brown in summer. The caragana has a fragrant flower that will naturally attract bees. The honey created has a pleasant taste, slightly ‘fruity’.
