An observatory is a place where objects in space such as the sun, the moon, planets, etc., are observed and studied. In ancient times, people used to watch the sky from the towers and temples of their cities or from the top of pyramids. The most famous ancient structure used as an observatory was the Stonehenge in England (3000 –1520 BCE). Eventually, astronomical instruments were developed and the telescope was invented. Slowly, huge observatories were established, which were equipped with all the modern astronomical gadgets. An observatory is situated in places having favourable weather conditions, unrestricted vast open area and good sunlight.
