A falling body is anything that falls to the ground and is pulled towards it by gravitational force. Every object in space, including the Earth has attractive force, which pulls other bodies towards it. Law of a falling body was discovered by Galileo in 1500s. He said that in absence of air resistance bodies fall towards the Earth according to a definite law. The longer a body falls, the more it gains speed as it approaches the ground. This is called acceleration due to gravity. It means a falling body has a speed of 10 m/s for the first second and then its speed increases to 20 m/s in the next second, and so on. However, presence of air reduces the rate of acceleration.
