Where do Leaves Go After they Have Fallen From Trees?

When leaves fall from trees, they are reused and recycled by fungi, bacteria and invertebrates. These fungi, bacteria and invertebrates act as decomposers and break down dead plant and animal matter back into nutrients for the soil. So, decomposers help to make forests healthier. The whole decomposition process takes many years and during this time, leaves at different stages of decomposition are found within the soil.
