The Gympie-Gympie is one of the four species of stinging tree in Australia. It is common in rainforest areas. It is best known for stinging hair that covers the whole plant. The hair causes an extremely painful stinging sensation that can last for long. Fruits are juicy, mulberry-like, and are bright pink to purple. Each fruit contains a single seed on the outside of the fruit.
