The Oort Cloud is a spherical cloud of icy objects. It extends 13,950,000,000,000 miles from the Sun. The Oort Cloud is not really a cloud. It is a mass of comets which circle the Sun at a great distance. The comets in the Oort Cloud circle the Sun in every direction. These objects break the rules of the solar system and create a sphere of comets around the Sun. It is believed that the Oort Cloud was formed when trillions of comets were thrown out of the inner solar system by Jupiter and Saturn. It is named after the Dutch astronomer named Jan Oort. It is sometimes called the Opik Oort Cloud. The outer limit of the Oort Cloud defines the cosmographical boundary of the solar system and the extent of the Sun’s Hill Sphere.
