Florence Nightingale was a famous nurse. She got the name ‘The Lady with the Lamp’ during Crimean Wars. In 1854, Florence Nightingale and 38 other nurses arrived in Constantinople. The British hospital there was dirty, the drains were blocked, rats and fleas were everywhere. Florence made many improvements. The soldiers used to call her ‘The Lady with the Lamp’ because she would visit soldiers at night with a small lantern in her hand. She had 38 nurses working under her during the Crimean War. Once the London Times, newspaper of England, reported, “Nightingale is a ‘ministering angel’ without any exaggeration in these hospitals.”
