Why do living things depend on one another?

No living thing can exist on its own. Each living thing is part of an ecosystem and has complicated relationships with other living beings and with its habitat. Each living being depends on its environment to supply it with its basic and extended needs, including food, water and shelter. Each living being needs other organisms to survive and this is called ‘interdependence’. For example, animals cannot make their own food and are dependent on the food-producing plants.
