Why can we see so many colours in the world?

It was Newton’s observation that objects do not have their colours. The surfaces of the objects reflect some colours while absorbing others. We see only the reflected colours and that is how we are able to distinguish colours. For example, the apple will reflect the colour red while absorbing the rest. We see the red wavelength, that is reflected to us and perceive the apple as red.
