Why does our diet need to be rich in calcium?

Calcium is a very important mineral that gives us healthy bones and teeth. Apart from this, it helps muscles contract, helps blood clot, controls blood pressure and helps prevent gum disease. Calcium is important for a lot of other body functions in addition to the absorption of vitamins. We lose calcium every day through our skin, nails, sweat, hair, faeces and urine. Unfortunately, our body cannot produce calcium on its own. Therefore, it is important to get the calcium from the food we eat to develop strong bones in children and keep the bones dense and healthy in adulthood.
