Two popular species of cods are the Atlantic cod (Gadus morhua) and the Pacific cod (Gadus macrocephalus). It weighs an average of 5-12 kg. Being an active hunter, it feeds on sand eels, whiting, haddock, small cod, squids, crabs, lobsters, mussels, worms, mackerel and molluscs. It is enjoyed as food making humans its only predators. Its lifespan is 20 years.
