Dottybacks are small, vividly coloured reef fish with about 120 known species. They are 2-10 cm in length and have 3 or less spines in the dorsal fin. Crustaceans, zooplankton, polychaetes and small fish make up their diet. All dottybacks are hermaphrodites, capable of switching their sex. They are hardy aquarium fish with a lifespan of 5-7 years.
