The Pavo christatus (scientific name) or Indian peacock is a big beautiful colourful bird mostly found in India, Sri Lanka and Mayanmar. The ones in India and Sri Lanka are blue in colour, while the ones found in Mayanmar are green. While its body height is 40-50 inches, it has a beautiful blue-green tail which is another 60 inches. It also has colourful eye-markings of blue, gold, red and other hues. Peacocks are omnivorous which eat everything from plants, seeds and insects to reptiles and amphibians. They are polygamous and breeding season depends on the rains. They have elaborate courtship rituals. An average clutch-size is 4-8 eggs, which are incubated for 28 days by the female only. Its IUCN listing is the LEAST CONCERN.
