The Ara rubrogenys (scientific name) or red-fronted macaw is found only in the semi-desert mountainous regions of Bolivia.Just 24 inches in height, these birds are known as mini macaws. It is mostly green, but has a spectacular red accent on the forehead, crown, and behind the eye, as well as on the bend of its wings. To add to their beauty, they also have some bluish hues framing their wings and the tips of their tails. Their diet includes vegetation, fruits, vegetables and nuts. These birds form monogamous bonds annually, and breeding takes place between October and March. An average clutch-size is comprised of 1-3 eggs, incubated for 26 days. They are a rare species in the macaw family. Its IUCN listing is ENDANGERED.
