The Milvusmigrans (scientific name) or black kite has a very cosmopolitan distribution, but is a native resident of India and South-East Asia. Medium-sized bird of prey, the black kite is largely brownish with very little rufous colouring in the plumage. The head and neck are a lighter colour. The base of the beak is yellow and the tip is black. They are opportunistic hunters and usually catch their prey mid-flight. Their diet includes household refuse, carrion, fish, smaller birds, bats, rodents, etc. An average clutch-size has 2-3 eggs which are incubated for 30-34 days by both the male and the female, who also build the nest together. Its IUCN listing is the LEAST CONCERN.
