Violet-backed Starling

The Cinnyricinclus leucogaster (scientific name) or violet-backed starling is found in savannah forests, specifically South of the Sahara Desert, Africa. They are a sexually dimorphic species, which mean that the male and the female look very different from each other. In this instance, the male has a beautiful iridescent amethyst colour on its head, neck, upper chest, back and wings with a white underbelly, while the female is speckled streaky brown-buff and white colour. Their primary food is fruits like mulberries and figs, and insects which could range from bees to butterflies and wasps. They are monogamous breeders, with an average clutch-size of 2-4 eggs incubated for 12-14 days. Its IUCN listing is the LEAST CONCERN.
