The Platylophus galericulatus (scientific name) or crested jay is a monotypic bird found in moist tropical forests of Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Myanmar. It is a medium-sized glossy black bird with a black beak and legs. It has small white markings near its eye and also a crescent-like white shape below its head. The crested jay has a distinguishable mohawk-like crest on the crown of its head. They are omnivores and have a varied diet which includes fruits, insects and even invertebrates. An average clutch-size has 3-6 eggs, incubated for approximately 16 days. While it is considered to be a part of the Corvidae family of birds, its placement is uncertain. Its IUCN listing is NEAR THREATENED.
