Oriental Magpie Robin

The Copsychus saularis (scientific name) or oriental magpie robin is a small Old World flycatcher which is found in gardens and forests across the Indian sub-continent and parts of South-East Asia. Only 7.5 inches in length, this bird is sexually dimorphic. The male has a black throat, neck and upper parts. Apart from its white under parts and underside of the tail, it also has a white strip from shoulder to its wingtip. The female is more greyish-black on greyish-white. They are insectivorous but are also known to eat nectar, leeches and even fish. The breeding season finds males singing and strutting about to attract females. An average clutch-size has 4-5 eggs, which are incubated for 8-14 days. Its IUCN listing is the LEAST CONCERN.
