The Anas platyrhynchos domesticus (scientific name) or Indian runner duck is a unique breed of ducks which are a native of the Indian sub-continent and also Malaysia. 14 inches in height, is bird prefers to travel by running rather than swimming or waddling. Even though it looks like a regular duck, with webbed feet and a flat bill, unlike other ducks, it stands erect like a penguin. Its plumage varies in colour from white, black, brown, fawn and blue. It loves to forage for its food, which is comprised of worms, slugs, flies, etc. With as many as 150-200 eggs each year, the Indian runner duck unlike its cousins is known all over the world for its egg-laying production. Its IUCN listing is the LEAST CONCERN.
