The Goura Victoria (scientific name) or Victoria-crowned pigeon is native to the lowlands and swamp forests of Northern New Guinea. 29-30 inches in height, this bird is famous for the elegant blue feather crest it has on its head. Its feathers are white- tipped. This bird is deep blue grey in colour and has a black mask on its eyes. The tips of its wing feathers and tail feathers are a lighter powder blue in colour. It also has a strange call, which is like a ‘whoop-whoop’. Its diet is comprised of fruits and seeds, but it also eats plants when it cannot find food. This bird lays a single egg during breeding season, and incubates it for 30 days. Its IUCN listing is NEAR THREATENED.
