The Chrysolophus amherstiae (scientific name) or Lady Amherst’s pheasant is endemic to South-Western China and Mayanmar. 39-47 inches in length, this bird has a very long tail, which almost accounts for 30 inches of its total length. The male has black-silver feathers on the head and neck, which resemble a head-gear. The crown is red, and the tail is silver-black with coral red feathers extending from the rump to the tail. The belly and underparts are white, and throat, chest, wings and upperparts are dark grey-silver. The lower back is yellow. Its diet consists of grains, leaves and invertebrates like insects, spiders, earthworms, etc. An average clutch has 6-12 eggs which are incubated for 23-24 days. Its IUCN listing is the LEAST CONCERN.
