Common name : Burnt pine longhorn beetle
Scientific name : Arhopalus tristis
Family : Cerambycidae
Native to : Europe (North Island, Northern South Island)
Interesting fact : At 30 mm in length, this beetle is relatively larger than its brethren.
Their colouring ranges from dark brown to black. Their diet is comprised of wood from the pine trees, whether they are dead or alive or especially if they are damaged by fire. A female can lay 1000 eggs in the crevices of trees. As soon as the larvae emerge they begin to feed on the inner phloem and cambium or the pine tree.
