Chrysanthemum Lace Bug

Chrysanthemum-Lace-Bug

Common name : Chrysanthemum lace bug

Scientific name : Corythucha marmorata

Family : Tingidae

Native to : Asia, North America

Interesting fact : Due to their delicate lace-like wings, these insects are known as ‘lace bugs’.

1/8th inch in length, this bug has a creamy white colour. They reside on ornamental plants like sunflowers, tansies, black-eyed susans and chrysanthemums amongst others. Their diet is comprised of plants which they pierce and suck the sap out of. Once they attack plants, they weaken them making them more susceptible to damage. The female lays eggs on the underside of plant leaves, along the veins of the leaves. These eggs hatch and develop quickly.
