Interesting fact : It is known as a common blue butterfly because this particular insect is the commonest powder blue-coloured butterfly across England and Ireland.
Found in sunny sheltered areas which include grass, coastal areas, woodlands, golf courses and even urban habitats, its wingspan is about 35 mm. The caterpillar of the common blue butterfly is a pale green colour with yellow stripes. Eggs are laid on the young shoots of plants, which are consumed as food once the caterpillar hatches. The main food is the bird’s foot trefoil plant.
