The Faisal Mosque was built in Islamabad, Pakistan, between 1976 and 1986. The Faisal Mosque is unique in its style and design. It lacks the domes and arches present in traditional mosques everywhere. Built by a Turkish architect, the mosque is shaped like an 8-sided concrete shell that is inspired by an Arab Bedouin’s tent and the Kaaba in Mecca, and is covered in white marble. It is edged with four unusually designed thin pencil-like minarets.
