The wives of King Sakka were reincarnated and had their own mansions, gardens and ponds in heaven. However, his youngest wife, who had never done any good in her lifetime, was reborn as a simple forest crane. King Sakka decided to visit the forest crane. He told the crane to follow Pancha shila (five moral precepts). The crane followed his advice. To test the crane, the King disguised himself as a fish. The crane saw it and picked it up. Seeing the fish move, it exclaimed, “Oh, it’s alive!” and it left the fish in the stream. King Sakka was very happy with the crane. Following the five training steps, the crane attained rebirth as a simple human. Later, it was also reborn as a princess.
Moral: Good acts are always rewarded generously.
