A wise monk had many students. They all lived in the monk’s house and spent their time learning together. One day, the monk was going into the forest for his meditation. Just then, he overheard two students who were arguing about a flag flapping in the wind. “It is the wind that is really moving,” stated the first student. “No, it is the flag that is moving,” argued the second student. The debate continued for a long time. The two students did not agree with each other. The monk, who had heard enough, interrupted them. “My dear students, you both are wrong. Neither the flag nor the wind is moving,” he said, “It is the mind that moves.” The two students understood that their argument was unnecessary, since both of their perceptions were correct.
Moral: It is important to understand the other’s perspective to live in harmony.
