The Two Spells

Once, there lived a king who did not want to punish or imprison anyone. So, people used to disobey him. The king became sad, as there was no law and order in the kingdom. A monk suggested a solution. He gave the king two small pieces of parchment, with colourful writing on them. “These are two spells, Your Highness. Use the first before giving instructions to your subjects. The second spell should be used after the work is done. A smile will indicate whether your spell has worked or not,” the monk said. The next day, the king was sitting with his ministers when he saw a servant named Apolonio passing by with a huge turkey. The king politely requested Apolonio to show him the turkey. Astonished by the king’s kind tone, Apolonio came forward. Everyone was surprised by the effectiveness of the spell. The king looked at the turkey keenly and thanked Apolonio. The servant smiled and left. The spell worked! The monk said, “You just need to be polite and well mannered to attain what you want.”
