Once, a man named Wallace was admitted to a hospital. His room-mate was called Johnnie. Both the men were seriously ill. Johnnie was on the bed, right next to the only window of the room. Wallace’s disease forced him to lie on his back all day long. Whenever Johnnie sat by the window, he would describe in detail all that he saw outside. Wallace would imagine the scene, with his eyes closed. One morning, Johnnie was discharged from the hospital. “Thank you, Johnnie, for seeing for me,” Wallace had told Johnnie before he left. Later, Wallace requested the nurse to shift him to the windowside. When he looked out of the window, he was shocked to see that there was nothing there but just a brick wall! He asked the nurse, “How could Johnnie describe such wonderful things outside this window when there is nothing here?” The nurse told him that Johnnie was actually blind and could see nothing at all! “Maybe he just wanted to keep your spirits high,” she added.
