Feeding the Dead is an ancient Roman tradition that was uncovered recently.
Do you know: It was only the recent discoveries in the Vatican that uncovered this long forgotten tradition.
Many Roman graves, found not only in the Vatican but also in England, contained pipes that lead to the outside of the grave. Through these pipes, members of family could pass wine, honey and other food items for the dead. The Romans believed that dining at their graves and feeding them was believed to feed the souls of their deceased relatives.
