Lord Ram was exiled from Ayodhya for fourteen years. One day, his wife was kidnapped by Ravan, the demon-king of Lanka. Ram and his brother Lakshman set out in search of her. On their way, they reached Mount Rishyamukh. Sugreev was sitting with his ministers when he suddenly noticed two simply dressed brothers wandering near the Pampa Lake. He also saw bows and swords in their hands. Sugreev became frightened. “Are they Bali’s spies? I am worried they might be here to kill me!” he exclaimed in fear. Sugreev always feared that Bali would kill him some day. So, he insisted that Hanuman should go and find out their identities. He also told Hanuman that he should send him some signal so that he might flee the place if they turned out to be Bali’s men. Hanuman readily agreed to meet them. “King Sugreev, do not worry. I will go and find out what their purpose is,” he said.
