Motivated by Jambvan’s talk, Hanuman addressed the group. “Brothers, Lord Ram has bestowed me with special powers. I am now confident of crossing the ocean in a single leap!” he said. Everybody was overjoyed and shouted, “May you succeed in your mission! Jai Shri Ram!” Hanuman then turned himself into a gigantic size and soared above the ocean with great speed. Seeing him fly like that, the Sea-god thought, ‘Hanuman is Ram’s follower; he must be on some assignment for Ram!’ So he asked Mount Mainak that lay in his depths to rise above the waters and provide relief to Hanuman. The mountain said, “O Son of Wind-god! Please rest on my peaks for a while and then proceed. You will get tired if you cross the ocean in one leap!” Hanuman heard what Mainak said, but did not stop. He just touched it in reverence and moved on.
