Duryodhana and his forces realized that Arjuna would have to be drawn away if they wanted to reach Yudhishthira. So Susarma, the chief of Trigarta, and his army decided to draw Arjuna by luring him on to kill them. Arjuna placed the safety of Yudhishthira in the hands of Satyajit and Vrikra, princes of Panchala, while he answered the challenge of the Trigartas. Dhrishtadyumna faced Drona. When the princes of Panchala were killed along with some other warriors, Duryodhana was delighted. But Karna warned him that Pandavas had been hurt and humiliated by him and they would not surrender. Bhagadatta, the King of Prgjyotisha, a friend of the Kauravas, had an elephant, Supratik, famed and feared as a war elephant. Bhagadatta attacked Bhima’s chariot and unseated him. Bhima got under the elephant which gave him immense pain. Beating back Susarma’s attack, Arjuna went to aid Bhima. He killed the elephant and Bhagadatta.
