Pradyumna, Krishna’s son, was also fighting among the Yadava men. He and Satyaki were also killed. It was not long before Krishna knew the hour of departure had come and gave them the rushes. The Yadavas plucked out the strong sharp rushes growing there to attack one another. As they were plucked, each one became a mace. They were used with deadly effect. Balarama saw this and was deeply ashamed. He went into a yogic trance and gave up his body. Seeing Balarama depart, Krishna was very sad. He left the place and wandered into the forested part of the beach. There, he sat down under a tree and fell asleep. A hunter was looking for suitable prey. Seeing movement he mistook Krishna for a wild animal and shot his arrow. It pierced his foot at the instep and went right up through his body, sending Krishna to his heavenly abode.
