Esala Perahera is also known as the ‘Festival of the tooth’, and is the biggest festival in Sri Lanka.

are experts who believe that the ritual dates back to the 4th century.
EsalaPerahera is an annual festival where the main attraction is an enormous parade including 5,000 dancers, drummers, whip crackers, jugglers–all in traditional clothes, and a 100 elephants that are beautifully decorated. The 3-hour-long festival is organized to honour Buddhism and the Buddha’s Tooth that is placed in the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic of the Buddha.
